Multihulls World magazine, previews Rapido 500 ECO Power Cat, Issue No. 201
Below is a copy of the preview.
Rapido Trimarans as the name suggests, builds three-hulled boats - until now driven by sails...
The launch of a Rapido 500 ECO power cat, the world premiere of which is scheduled for the Singapore Yachting Festival from April 10 - 13, therefore comes as a surprise.
What is equally surprising is that the yard has opted for a very lightweight platform with particularly narrow hulls (maximum width 96cm / 38.75 inches), with the result that a modest power train of twin 110HP motors should make it capable of speeds in excess of 20 knots.
As for the superstructure, it takes up the entire width and provides a passage to the foredeck via a front door.
The draft of less than 1m (39" allows access to the most remote bodies of water and the majority of inland waterway systems.
With a view to reducing fuel consumption, the shipyard is offering a kite option.
END OF MULTIHULLS WORLD PREVIEW.
Data from R500's maiden voyage from Vietnam to Singapore for the Singapore Yachting Festival
The fuel economy for this 50' power cat, which has a light displacement of 6.2T, between Vietnam and Singapore was impressive. The data is detailed below:
600nm
2 x 80HP inboard engines
Total fuel consumption for 2 engines: 18 litres per hour
Total rate of fuel consumption for 2 engines: 1.5 litres per nm
Average speed: 12.2 knots
Crew: 3
Total fuel bill: USD648 (900 litres at 72c in Vietnam)
That's cheaper than buying air tickets for your crew. And, as a bonus, you also get to move your house for free!
Singapore Yachting Festival is on until Sunday 13 April 2025.
